MLB Pitch, Hit and Run competition to be Saturday, May 2

An MLB Pitch, Hit and Run competition will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 2, at the Wyandotte County Sports Association complex, 101st and Leavenworth Road, Kansas City, Kan.

The free event is open to all boys and girls ages 7 to 14.

“We’re celebrating 55 years this year, and we’re opening this up to all youth in the community,” said Brenda Bennett, outgoing general manager for WyCo Sports.

WyCo Sports is the host for this local competition for MLB Pitch, Hit and Run, she said. A total of 32 winners will move on to the sectional competition. They are the first-place all-around winners.

Then the winners of the sectional event will compete at a regional event. The regional winners will compete at Pitch, Hit and Run at the All-Star game.

Bennett said the participants will compete in the three components of MLB Pitch, Hit and Run. In the pitching contest, participants are tested throwing strikes to a designated strike zone target. In the hit competition, the participant hits a ball off a stationary tee for distance and accuracy. In the run competition, the participant is timed, starting from second base, touching third, then touching home plate.

The age of the participant is determined as of July 17, 2015. Those participating must bring a copy of a valid birth certificate.
