Kansas City Kansas Community College’s young women’s soccer team did everything but score in the second half in a 1-0 loss to Neosho County Tuesday.

Taking advantage of a favorable wind, Neosho scored the game’s only goal off a corner kick by Bri’Anna Schroeder from McKenzie Ball 30 minutes into the game and then survived a bevy of KCKCC shots the second half.

The Lady Blue Devils peppered Neosho goalkeeper Autumn Wilson with 15 shots on goal, most of which came in the second half when most of the contest was played in Neosho territory. Meanwhile, KCKCC goalkeeper Morgan Longstreth turned back eight of nine Neosho shots.

“This one hurt because it was a conference game,” KCKCC coach Shawn Uhlenhake said. “We came out kind of flat and without a lot of energy and then did everything but score the second half. We had so many opportunities but just couldn’t get the ball in the net. Now we have win a couple of conference games on the road to make the playoffs.”

The loss was the first in four starts for the Lady Blue Devils, who now go on the road to Allen County in Iola Saturday at 2 p.m. and then Cowley College in Arkansas City next Tuesday before returning home to entertain St. Charles Sept. 14.
