A mill and overlay project on I-70 from 110th Street to west of the I-435 bridges is beginning tonight, Aug. 23.
According to the Kansas Department of Transportation, the project includes asphalt pavement patching, concrete pavement patching and pavement marking.
Work will occur from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 7 p.m. to 8 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
According to a spokesman, message boards alerting motorists are in place, notifying the start of the project. Traffic will be controlled using portable message signs, arrow boards, signage and traffic cones. Lanes and ramps will be closed as necessary. The project is expected to be completed in early October.
Bettis Asphalt of Topeka is the contractor for the $1.7 million project.
A KDOT spokesman urged all motorists to be alert and obey the warning signs when approaching and driving through a highway work zone. To stay aware of all road construction projects across Kansas go to www.kandrive.org or call 5-1-1. Drive safely and always wear a seat belt, the spokesman stated.
