Several Memorial Day weekend events are planned for Wyandotte County and the Kansas City area.

Memorial Day, May 29
• Memorial Day Masses will be held at 9 a.m. Monday, May 29, at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Crucifixion Group, 38th and State, Kansas City, Kansas; and at 10 a.m. Monday, May 29, at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Holy Redeemer Chapel, 126th and Parallel, Kansas City, Kansas.
• Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens will hold its annual Memorial Day service at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, May 29, outside the Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, on the grounds of the cemetery at 701 N. 94th St., Kansas City, Kansas. The event is free and open to the public. The service will include a bagpiper, laying of a memorial wreath, a 21-gun salute, and the playing of taps by Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens General Manager Joel Brinkley. • Memorial Day activities will include a ceremony and observance at 11:40 a.m. Monday, May 29, at the Ft. Leavenworth National Cemetery on the Ft. Leavenworth post. There is another ceremony and observance at 9 a.m. Monday, May 29, at the Leavenworth National Cemetery, 150 Muncie Road, (near K-7 and K-5 highways), Leavenworth.
All weekend
• About 8,000 flags honoring those who died in the Wars on Terror are on display in front of the Schlitterbahn waterpark at 94th and State Avenue in Kansas City, Kansas. Visitors may enter the Schlitterbahn parking lot and then view the flags on display. The flags have been placed by the American Fallen Warrior Memorial Foundation.
