A public meeting has been scheduled for 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, on the 18th Street Bridge replacement study.
The meeting will take place at the Joe Amayo Argentine Recreation Center, 2810 Metropolitan Ave., Kansas City, Kansas.
The Kansas Department of Transportation is holding the open house-style meeting.
Those attending can learn about the study and give their comments on the draft alternatives being considered. KDOT and project team staff will be present to answer questions. There will be no formal presentation.
The meeting will be in a drop-in format.
The study will identify a replacement alternative for the 18th Street Bridge before further rehabilitation is required, according to a KDOT spokesman. The bridge is nearing the end of its service life and further rehabilitation beyond the repairs made in 2018 can no longer cost effectively maintain the structure, KDOT stated.
The repairs made in 2018 are expected to extend the service life of the bridge from five to 10 years, KDOT stated.
