Medicare open enrollment assistance events will be held Tuesday, Oct. 17, and Wednesday, Nov. 8.
U.S. Rep. Kevin Yoder, R-3rd Dist., will sponsor these events.
The Oct. 17 event will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Olathe Community Center, and the Nov. 8 event will be from 9 a.m. to noon at the West Wyandotte Library, 1737 N. 82nd St., Kansas City, Kansas.
Volunteers from the Senior Health Insurance Counseling for Kansas (SHICK) program will attend to give one-on-one help to seniors who have questions or who want to make changes to their plans.
The Medicare Open Enrollment Period extends from Oct. 15 through Dec. 7. Medicare beneficiaries who wish to make changes or enroll for the first time need to bring their Medicare card, any current prescriptions (including dosage and frequency), and a list of preferred pharmacies. The event is free and open to the public.
For more information, contact Rep. Yoder’s district office in Overland Park at 913-621-0832.
Oct. 15 through Dec. 7 is not Open Enrollment. That period is called the Annual Enrollment Period (AEP). Open Enrollment refers to the time surrounding someone’s first enrollment into Medicare Part B or when they turn 65. People that don’t even know the difference between the Medicare periods have no business trying to assist Medicare beneficiaries. Our office gets calls every week from people confused by this misinformation.
