Many offices to be closed on Fourth of July

Unified Government and Board of Public Utilities offices will be closed on the Fourth of July holiday.

In addition, Independence Day is a federal and state holiday. Many businesses also are closed on July 4.

The UG and BPU offices are open on Monday, July 3, closed on Tuesday, July 4, and will reopen on Wednesday, July 5.

The BPU’s customer service lobby and business offices will be closed July 4. Emergency service is available around the clock and on holidays; for electric emergencies, call 913-573-9522, and for water emergencies, call 913-573-9622.

There is no trash service or recycling service from Deffenbaugh – Waste Management on July 4 for residential customers. If their usual trash collection day is on Tuesday, July 4, residential trash will be collected on Wednesday, July 5. There will be a delay of one day for the rest of the week, also, for residential customers. The normal schedule will resume on Monday, July 10.

Business and commercial customers of Waste Management will not be affected by the holiday, and the normal business and commercial collection schedule will continue July 4 and the rest of the week.

The Kansas City, Kansas, Public Library and its branches will be closed on Tuesday, July 4.

The mail will not be delivered on July 4, as it is a U.S. Postal Service holiday.
