Many government offices, businesses closed for Thanksgiving holiday

Many government offices and businesses will be closed on Thursday for the Thanksgiving Day holiday.

The Unified Government offices will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 24, and Friday, Nov. 25, for the Thanksgiving holiday, according to an announcement. The UG offices will reopen on Monday, Nov. 28, during regular business hours.

The Board of Public Utilities administrative offices and customer service lobby will be closed Thursday, Nov. 24, and Friday, Nov. 25, for the Thanksgiving holiday, according to an announcement.

Although BPU’s business offices are closed on holidays, emergency service is available seven days a week, 24 hours a day. For power emergencies, customers may call 913-573-9522. The water emergency number is 913-573-9622 from 8 a.m. to midnight on weekdays, and 913-573-9522 from midnight to 8 a.m. and during weekends and holidays.

Trash will not be picked up by Deffenbaugh on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 24, according to an announcement from the UG. Normal trash and recycling service will take place Monday through Wednesday of Thanksgiving week. Normal Thursday trash pickup will take place on Friday, Nov. 25, and normal Friday trash pickup will take place on Saturday, Nov. 26.

Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24, is a federal holiday, with federal offices closed.

It is also a postal holiday, with U.S. post offices closed and no mail delivery on Thanksgiving.

The Thanksgiving holiday for state of Kansas offices is Thursday, Nov. 24, and Friday, Nov. 25.

The Kansas City, Kan., Public Libraries will be closed Thursday, Nov. 24, and Friday, Nov. 25, for Thanksgiving.

The Bonner Springs City Library will close at 5 p.m. Nov. 23 and remain closed until Saturday, Nov. 26.
