Man pleads guilty to voluntary manslaughter

Daniel Barlett, 30, of Kansas City, Kan., pleaded guilty Friday in Wyandotte County District Court to voluntary manslaughter in connection with the Sept. 24, 2012, shooting death of Chad Ford.

The shooting occurred in the 1300 block of North 47th Street in Kansas City, Kan.

On March 17, 2014, a jury convicted Barlett of criminal discharge of a firearm at an occupied vehicle, and the jury hung on a first-degree murder charge.

Sentencing in the case is set for 1 p.m. May 30, 2014, in Division 4 of the district court.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Sheryl Lidtke is prosecuting the case on behalf of the state of Kansas.
