A Kansas City, Kansas, man died in an overnight crash on southbound I-635 near I-70, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report.
Joseph Thomas Pate Darnell, 32, of Kansas City, Kansas, died in the crash at about 12:43 a.m. April 19, according to the trooper’s report.
Darnell was driving a 1999 Suzuki motorcycle, according to the report.
The trooper’s report said he came up behind a Ford Escape that was southbound on I-635. The motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed and rear-ended the Ford Escape, the trooper’s report stated. Darnell then was ejected, the report stated.
The trooper’s report stated the victim was not wearing a helmet.
The driver of the Ford Escape, a 49-year-old Kansas City, Kansas, woman, was not injured, according to the trooper’s report. A 46-year-old Kansas City, Missouri, woman passenger in the Escape also was not injured.
