A person who sped off at a traffic stop in the early morning hours of Aug. 10 has died in a car crash at 27th and Hickam Drive in Kansas City, Kansas.
According to a Kansas City, Kansas, police spokesman, a vehicle was stopped at 3:19 a.m. Aug. 10 at 27th Street and Parallel Parkway in the middle of a driving lane.
Officers pulled behind the vehicle and tried to talk to the person in it, according to the police spokesman.
When officers approached the four-door vehicle, the person in it looked at both officers, then sped away at a high rate of speed, the spokesman stated.
The vehicle continued north, accelerating until it struck a tree at 27th and Hickam, the spokesman stated.
The occupant of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The accident is under investigation by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department’s Traffic Support Unit. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the police at 913-596-3000.
