Today, Wyandotte County District Attorney Jerome A. Gorman filed criminal charges against Michael A. Jones, who lived at 5201 N. 99th St., Kansas City, Kan. Jones is 44 years old.
Jones is charged with one count of aggravated battery, one count of aggravated assault with a firearm, and one count of child abuse in connection with events that happened on Nov. 25 at the residence on 99th Street.
He is accused of battering and assaulting a 29-year-old woman who lived at the residence. He is also accused of torturing or cruelly beating his 7-year-old son. Jones is affiliated with a bail bonding company that operates in northeast Kansas.
Aggravated battery is a severity level 7 person felony. Aggravated assault with a firearm is a severity level 7 person felony. Child abuse is a severity level 5 person felony.
Bond has been set at $10 million. Jones was booked into the Wyandotte County Jail on Nov. 25. Jones is expected to have a first appearance in Wyandotte County District Court on Monday.
The Kansas City, Kan., Police Department is investigating the Nov. 25 incident, as well as a report that a 7-year-old boy has died. The investigation is proceeding, and police are consulting with forensic experts concerning the examination of human remains found in a barn at the 99th Street residence, according to the district attorney’s office.
Initial reports are that Michael Jones had a 7-year-old son from a previous relationship, and that son is missing, the district attorney’s office stated. Forensic examiners will be asked to report on identity of the remains, as well as any other findings.
