Jasper Leroy Cunningham, 36, was charged today in Wyandotte County District Court with two counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.
The charges, filed by District Attorney Jerome Gorman, were in connection with the Dec. 15 and 16 standoff at the Hilton Garden Inn, 5th and Minnesota, Kansas City, Kan.
Cunningham shot at multiple law enforcement officers, inside and outside the hotel, during the standoff, according to the district attorney. Officers returned fire, injuring him.
The occupants of the hotel were evacuated to the Reardon Convention Center during the incident.
Bond for Cunningham, who is in the Wyandotte County Jail, was set at $600,000.
