Light snow showers were falling Thursday morning in Wyandotte County.
A quick-moving winter storm system has brought a dusting of snow to the Kansas City area, the National Weather Service said.
Snow will shift to eastern Missouri by noon as a cold front continues to advance. Falling temperatures today may freeze still wet surfaces, leaving untreated surfaces slick today and tonight, according to the weather service.
Wind chills this morning, Friday, Saturday and Sunday will be cold, the weather service said. The temperature was 31 at 9 a.m. in Wyandotte County, with a wind chill reading of 24.
A strong weekend storm system will stay to the south of the Kansas City area, with only a small chance of snow across this area, according to the weather service.
Today, there is a 50 percent chance of snow showers, mainly before 11 a.m., the weather service said. It will be cloudy, then changing to mostly sunny, with a high near 33 and a north wind of 10 to 14 mph.
Tonight, it will be partly cloudy with a low of 18 and a north northeast wind of 6 to 9 mph, according to the weather service.
Friday, it will be mostly sunny with a high near 33 and an east northeast wind of 3 to 5 mph, the weather service said.
Friday night, it will be mostly cloudy with a low of 22 and an east northeast wind around 6 mph, according to the weather service.
Saturday, it will be mostly cloudy with a high near 34 and an east northeast wind of 8 mph, the weather service said.
