Twenty essay writers will win Little Free Library kits in an effort sponsored by the Kansas City, Kan., Public Library.
Wyandotte County residents who write the 20 best essays on the topic, “Spreading Literacy Through Mini Libraries in Wyandotte County,” will win a Little Free Library kit.
Anyone living in Wyandotte County is eligible to participate, according to a spokesman for the library. Essays should be 200 words and must be submitted to [email protected] by Monday, March 28.
The essays will be judged by the library management team, branch managers and supervisors.
Little free libraries are a book exchange effort by individuals to place free books in a mini bookcase-like structure outdoors where anyone may borrow or leave books. Some of them are about the size of a mailbox or a little bigger than a birdhouse.
The little free libraries are small kits that can be built on the winner’s private property, according to the library spokesman. They cannot be placed on public property or on the sidewalk.
Winners will be announced at the beginning of April. For more information or to submit an essay, email [email protected].
