Legendary blues artist Lazy Lester will be playing venues in the Kansas City area this weekend.
Just the opposite of his nickname, Lester has four appearances scheduled this weekend.
He is scheduled to appear at Knuckleheads Saloon, 2715 Rochester Ave., Kansas City, Mo., at 8:30 p.m. Friday in an event that also features Danny Cox in the Retro Lounge.
Then, Lester will appear from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at the Folk Alliance workshop, 509 Delaware St., Kansas City, Mo.
He will be featured at the Lenexa Neighborhood Association Block Party Chili Cook-off with the Jimmy Meade All-Stars at 8 p.m. Saturday.
Finally, Lester will make an appearance in the Cross Currents house concert series at 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, at Mike and Patricia Runyon’s home, 1609 S. 28th St., Kansas City, Kan.
A native of Torras, La., Lester Johnson was raised in a suburb of Baton Rouge. In 1957, he became a lead artist on Excello Records, with Lightnin’ Slim.
Lester is known for his hits, “Sugar Coated Love,” “I’m a Lover Not a Fighter,” and “I Hear You Knockin’.”
In 2012 Lester was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame by the Blues Foundation.
