Laredo flexes muscle in series opener

The best offense in the American Association showed itself to the T-Bones with a 12-0 win Friday night at Uni-Trade Stadium in Laredo, Texas.

The Lemurs scored three first-inning runs against Kansas City starting pitcher Pat Doyle (2-3).

Nick Van Stratten reached on a leadoff walk and later scored on a Devin Goodwin single to right field. The Lemurs also got a two-run single from Angel Flores to cap off the first frame.

The Lemurs tacked on another five runs in the fourth inning and another four in the fifth, all charged to Doyle, who gave up 12 hits. Lefty reliever Zach Fowler allowed just three baserunners (two hits, one walk) in 3 2/3 scoreless innings.

The Lemurs got four hits from Angel Flores, who added three RBIs.

Offensively, the T-Bones couldn’t solve Lemur starter Josh Strawn (3-2), who pitched 7 innings and allowed just five hits.

Nick Giarraputo went 2 for 4 at the plate with a double. He was the only hitter in manager John Massarelli’s offense who collected two hits. Giarraputo now has back-to-back multi-hit games.

The T-Bones (13-15) continue their three-game series with Laredo on Saturday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30.
