Lansing inmate death reported

The Kansas Department of Corrections reported that Casey Wallace, a resident of Lansing Correctional Facility, died Friday, April 1.

Wallace was transported to St. John Hospital, Leavenworth, where he was pronounced dead by hospital staff, according to a KDOC news release. The cause of death was pending an autopsy, but was not believed to be COVID-19 related.

Wallace, 28, had been incarcerated since March 24, 2021, for distributing marijuana and possession of a firearm, according to KDOC.

The death is under investigation by KDOC and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, which is the protocol when a resident dies in custody.
