Lansing correctional inmate dies

A 53-year-old man died Saturday night at Lansing Correctional Facility.

George E. Dobbs was serving an 89-month sentence from convictions of distribution of heroin or meth in Leavenworth County, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections.

Dobbs also had five past convictions out of Wyandotte County for opium sales, theft, fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement officer, two opiates possessions, and one attempted arson from Johnson County, according to KDOC records.

Dobbs was found unresponsive while under observation in the infirmary, according to a KDOC news release. Staff began life-saving measures immediately and continued until emergency medical services arrived, the spokesman stated.

The cause of death is pending independent autopsy results, according to the spokesman. A preliminary assessment stated that the death was not related to COVID-19. An investigation is ongoing, authorities stated.
