Lady Sabres defeat Wyandotte 66-32
by Brian Turrel
The Sumner Academy Lady Sabres defeated Wyandotte 66-32 in their Tuesday evening match at Sumner.
Junior guard Jordyn Rowe hit 10 three-point shots on her way to 38 points overall in the game. The Lady Bulldogs played tough interior defense, led by senior Jada Ali, but couldn’t chase Rowe off the line and didn’t have the offensive power to keep pace.
Rowe was recognized at halftime for reaching the 1,000 point career mark last week at Atchison. In addition to the Sumner varsity team, she is a member of the Missouri Phenom 17U Nike team. She keeps up a busy schedule off the court as well, volunteering at the Roswell Church of Christ Kids’ Kitchen, and maintaining a 3.7 grade point average at Sumner.
In addition to Rowe’s offense, Sumner got 6 points and excellent ball-handling from Allaina Spencer. For Wyandotte, Jada Ali and Aysha Alexander led the scoring with 7 each. Ali was helped from the court in the third quarter after a head-to-head collision and did not return to the game.
The Lady Sabres play next at home against Harmon on Feb. 25. Wyandotte will play at Harmon on Feb. 24, tipping off at 5:30 p.m.
