by Brian Turrel
The Bonner Springs Lady Braves lost a close contest to the Tonganoxie Lady Chieftains 56-51 Friday evening in Bonner Springs. The home team kept within a possession for most of the game.
The Lady Braves offense capitalized on Mariyah Noel’s ability to drive and draw defenders, finishing at the rim or dishing to Wren VanCleave or McKenzie Campbell in the lane.
Corrie Hassett kept the Tonganoxie defense honest with timely outside baskets, including one to pull Bonner Springs within 3 points with two minutes left in the game after Tonganoxie extended its lead at the start of the fourth quarter.
On the Bonner Springs defensive end, Tonganoxie senior guard Raegan Seba was a tough match-up, scoring 17 points to pace the Lady Chieftains.
Noel and Hassett led the scoring for the Lady Braves with 13 points each. VanCleave contributed 10 and Campbell 8.
The Lady Braves have a home game coming up Monday against the tough 11-1 Lady Cardinals of Eudora. The game will start at 5:30 p.m.
