Kansas City Kansas Community College’s softball team continued to score runs in bunches Wednesday as the Blue Devils swept Haskell University in a pair of 5-inning contests, 9-1 and 11-2.
It was the fourth straight game KCKCC has scored nine or more runs. Now 10-5 overall, the Blue Devils have won seven of their last nine games heading into a 1 p.m. doubleheader Friday against Missouri Valley at Steineger Field in the Turner School District.
Brittany Gustin (5-3) allowed three hits, no earned runs and struck out nine in the 9-1 opener while Elizabeth Seimears (5-2) went the distance in the 11-2 nightcap, scattering eight hits and giving up just one earned run.
Tiffany Killam’s team-leading fourth home run of the season highlighted the opener. Killam also had an RBI double that ended the game in the fifth while Morgan Oroke singled and doubled, Kennedy Rasmussen singled twice and Amy-Grace Wilson tripled in a 12-hitt attack. Tied 1-1 in the third, KCKCC scored five runs on a triple by Wilson, double by Oroke and singles by Geena Harris, Sam Sudac, Kaylynn Stratton and Mekayla Guerrero. Killam’s solo homer triggered a two-run outburst in the fourth.
The Blue Devils broke open the second game with a 9-run third inning. Every Blue Devil had at least one hit in the inning with Killam leading with a pair of singles while Seimears and Guerrero had run-scoring doubles. A single by LaTisha Thomas and an RBI double by Guerrro ignited the uprising followed by consecutive singles by Killam, Oroke and Harris, a double by Seimers and singles by Rasmussen, Sudac and Stratton.
