“The best gift you can give yourself is to see the world.”…famed travel guide Jurgen Kursawe
In this case, see the world through two Kansas City Kansas Community College trips in 2016 – the newest to Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island in July. Announced earlier, a 14-day “Grand Tour of Spain” in September is nearly filled.
“Canadian Maritimes: Nova Scotia to Prince Edward Island” with an optional three-day extension to Newfoundland will take travelers through some of Canada’s most spectacular and storied regions July 22-30.
“It’s the first time we’ve taken a group to Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, areas famed for their immigrant history, fascinating Acadian culture and tranquil lifestyles of quaint fishing regions,” said Alan Hoskins, KCKCC tour organizer.
The trip will begin in Halifax, the capital of Nova Scotia famed for its Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21; the final resting place for many of the Titanic victims and the Victorian-era Public Gardens. Moncton, nicknamed the “Hub City” of New Brunswick, will be highlighted by a cruise of Peggy’s Cove and an underwater video camera to look at a variety of wildlife including whales, seals and leatherback turtles.
Prince Edward Island offers a wealth of scenic sites including the tidal erosion of the Hopewell Rocks; the covered bridges, beaches and shorebird sanctuary of Mary’s Point; the Bay of Fundy where you can walk on the ocean floor during low tide; and a visit to the Anne of Green Gables Museum. A ferry will take travelers through the Cape Breton Region of Nova Scotia with stops in Pictou where Scottish immigrants first landed, the Alexander Graham Bell Museum; and the Cabot Trail offering breathtaking views of oceans and mountainsides.
For those not continuing to Newfoundland, the trip will end in Sherbrooke Village in Halifax where actors dressed in late 19th century costumes depict life as it was more than 150 years ago. For those continuing to Newfoundland, they’ll have three days to experience not only the spectacular views of the country but also enjoy artisans at work, see humpback whales and puffins and savor Newfoundland’s culinary specialties including fresh-caught seafood and wild game.
The cost of the 9-day Nova Scotia trip is $2,879 double occupancy and includes round trip air from Kansas City, eight nights in hand-picked hotels, daily breakfast, one lunch and four three-course dinners, expert tour guide, private deluxe motor coach and sightseeing. However, Go Ahead Tours is offering a $100 discount to new travelers signing up no later than Dec. 31. The cost of a single room is an additional $530 although every attempt will be made to find roommates. The cost of the optional excursion to Newfoundland is $1,119. Full color brochures are available by contacting Alan Hoskins at [email protected] or 913-687-6426.
Only eight spaces remain for the “Grand Tour of Spain” Sept. 22-Oct. 7. A 14-day adventure through Madrid, Cordova, Seville, Gibraltar, Granada, Valencia and Barcelona, the cost is $3,909 and includes round trip air, lodging, daily buffet breakfast and six 3-course dinners. Brochures are also available but interested persons are urged to act quickly.
