Kansas City Kansas Community College continued to get outstanding pitching and timely hitting as the Blue Devils extended their winning streak to nine in a row with a doubleheader win over Ottawa junior varsity Wednesday.
Playing errorless ball in both games, the Blue Devils took 5-1 and 9-5 wins to improve their record to 14-4.
A two-run home run by Kaylee Arnzen highlighted a four-run first inning in the 5-11 opener. Arnzen also had a single and Devin Purcell singled twice for the Blue Devils, who were held to five hits.
Faith Maslak got the pitching win, allowing four hits and striking out three. Ottawa’s lone run came on a fifth-inning home run. Shay Grosstephan finished up, allowing no hits and striking out four.
The Blue Devils pounded out 13 hits in support of Mackenzie Pinkerton in the 9-5 second game.
Pinkerton faced 28 hitters, giving up four hits, walking three and striking out eight.
Hannah Redick had two doubles and two singles and drove in two runs; Alexis Rymer also drove in two runs with two doubles and a single; and Purcell singled and doubled.
KCKCC never trailed, scoring three runs in the first and opening an 8-1 lead with five runs in the third.
