KCKCC student-athletes have cumulative 3.14 grade point averages

Kansas City Kansas Community College honored 87 of its student-athletes for their academic success during the 2015 fall semester in ceremonies in the KCKCC Field House Wednesday .

College President Doris Givens, vice presidents Michael Vitale and Susan Lindahl and Board of Trustee members Don Ash, Ray Daniels and J.D. Rios presented academic achievement certificates to each of the student-athletes between games of KCKCC’s basketball games with Hesston Community College.

Overall, KCKCC student-athletes attained a grade point average of 3.14 with 12 of the athletes recording perfect 4.0 GPA’s. Another 26 percent were between 3.4-4.0 and an additional 28 percent between 3.0-3.49.

Of all student-athletes, 54 percent were above a 3.0 GPA and 97 percent were above a 2.0 with 82 percent passing 12 or more hours.

“I am extremely proud of our student athletes at KCKCC, most of whom have taken the opportunities provided to them to become successful in the classroom,” said KCKCC Athletic Director Tony Tompkins. “I am also most appreciative of our coaching staff and other support staffs around campus in their help in the academic support of our student-athletes. They truly want our student-athletes to succeed and I know our student-athletes are extremely grateful as well.”
