Dropping a 64-54 decision to State Fair Community College Saturday, Kansas City Kansas Community College’s Blue Devils swing right back in action Monday night.
Washburn University junior varsity, which edged the Blue Devils 83-80 in Topeka last Monday, invade KCKCC for a 7 p.m. rematch today. KCKCC (3-9) then closes out pre-holiday play Saturday as hosts of Iowa Western at 4 p.m.
State Fair (7-8) built a 36-29 halftime lead Saturday and then turned back repeated Blue Devil challenges for the 64-54 win.
Chilly shooting doomed the Blue Devils’ challenges. The Blue Devils could convert only 19-of-65 field goal attempts for 29.2 percent although making 10-of-31 from 3-point.
State Fair, meanwhile, was 20-0f-49 for 40.8 percent although just 5-of-23 from 3-point. The Roadrunners also had a 47-36 edge in rebounding led by 6-9 freshman L.J. Bryan, who pulled down 15.
Daiyon Taylor had 12 points, Kelyn Bolton 11 and Cody Dortch 9 to lead the Blue Devils in scoring. Bolton also had seven rebounds and DuVonte’ Beard and Taylor six each while Dortch led in assists with four.
Caleb Coleman, who was 8-for-10 from the flor along with seven rebounds, led State Fair with 18 points while Maurice Murray was adding 16.
