Kansas City Kansas Community College will play its first six home doubleheaders at Steineger Field in the Turner School District.
The opener will come Tuesday against Jayhawk Conference rival Johnson County at 1 p.m. Steineger Field is located behind Turner Middle School at 1312 S. 55th St. in Kansas City, Kan.
The move was made necessary because KCKCC’s new field is not ready and may not be open for any play this season.
“Turner High School went out of its way to make us welcome. Their help and support at our time of need is really appreciated,” KCKCC coach Kacy Tillery said. “We’ll play at Steineger through March 25, then play our remaining home games at WyCo – unless our new field is ready. We’ve been told it might be ready for play towards the end of the season.”
In addition to Tuesday’s game vs. JCCC, Steineger Field will also be the home site for KCKCC games this weekend against the University of Missouri Club Saturday, March 12; and Ellsworth, Sunday, March 13. Both of those twin bills will start at noon. Other home games set for Steineger are Brown Mackie, March 22; Haskell, March 23: and Missouri Valley, March 25.
