by Kelly Rogge

Would you like an opportunity to join a group that performs in the community? Then Kansas City Kansas Community College has the perfect group for you.

Rehearsals for the KCKCC Community Chamber Choir will begin at 7 p.m. Sept. 14 in the choir room (Room 2170 of the Humanities Building) on the KCKCC campus, 7250 State Ave., Kansas City, Kan.

Open to any singer who is at least in high school in Wyandotte, Johnson or Leavenworth counties and who has a desire to sing in a large ensemble, the repertoire of the Community Chamber Choir includes everything from major works to songs from all periods of music. The group performs in two major concerts each semester with the KCKCC Chamber Choir, and while experience in choral singing is recommended, it is not required.

Upcoming concert dates include:
• Oct. 18: “Inspired!”: Fall Choral Concert, 5 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 1086 N. 94th St., in Kansas City, Kan.
• Dec. 6: “Carols and Brass”: Winter Choral Concert, 3 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church, 2203 Parallel Ave. in Kansas City, Kan.
• May 5: Mark Hayes Requiem (Chamber Ensemble version – KCKCC Combined Choirs)-Multimedia Concert, 7 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist (5 p.m. call time. Mark Hayes will give a pre-concert lecture about the Requiem).

The choir is offered through Community Education, and the cost is $30. It can also be taken for academic credit. Those interested can enroll in person at the Community Education Building, which is on the east side of the main KCKCC campus; by phone at 913-288-7660 or online at www.kckcc.edu.
