Kansas City Kansas Community College’s Region VI basketball champions will “cut down the nets” Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in the College Fieldhouse at 7250 State Ave., Kansas City, Kan.
“Since we were not able to cut down the nets after winning both the men’s and women’s championships at Hartman Arena last Thursday, we’re holding a pep rally Wednesday to cut down the nets in the Fieldhouse,” said KCKCC Athletic Director Tony Tompkins.
The first community college since 2012 to win both the men’s and women’s championships, the Lady Blue Devils defeated No. 1 ranked and unbeaten Johnson County 63-56 in championship game and the men followed up with a 77-66 victory over Brown Mackie. It’s the first national tournament appearance for the men and the second for the women, who finished fifth in the Division I national tournament in 1997.
