Kansas City Kansas Community College got its 10th win of the young baseball season Tuesday, rallying for a 6-3 win over William Jewell’s JV in the Blue Devils’ final non-conference game before beginning Jayhawk Conference play.
That will come Thursday when the Blue Devils play a doubleheader at Johnson County at 1 p.m. The two teams then return to KCKCC for a twin bill Saturday, also at 1 p.m.
Four extra base hits, two triples and two doubles, helped the Blue Devils (10-2) rally for their seventh straight win Tuesday. Ryan Fisher tripled and singled, Easton Fortuna doubled and singled and Travis Stroup and Conor Behrens each singled twice while Malone Smith tripled in one run and Travis Stroup doubled in another in a 12-hit attack.
Trailing 2-0 in the sixth, the Blue Devils broke through in the bottom of the inning on a pair of triples. With one-out, Fisher tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Zach Mahoney. KCKCC then tied it on Behrens’ bunt single and Malone’s Smith triple and went ahead 3-2 on Fortuna’s double.
KCKCC added three more runs in the seventh. A walk and singles by Stroup and Eli Lovell scored one run, Fisher singled in another and Mahoney’s second sacrifice fly made it 6-2.
Colton Kenagy worked the first four innings, allowing two runs on three hits and four walks before giving way to five relievers, each of whom pitching one inning. Chad Cox got the win, allowing one hit.
