KCK resident publishes book

Bettse Folsom, a Kansas City, Kansas resident, has published a new book.

“How to Self-Publish Your Book: A List of ABC Key Steps on How to Self-Publish a Book,” is based mostly on her experience in helping her mother, Helen Walsh Folsom, publish her books.

Bettse Folsom, a former writer for the Wyandotte West and the Wyandotte Daily, said the new book covers self-publishing topics such as advice to writers, book contracts, cover pages, copyright, legal work and editing.

“A lot of people would ask me how to self-publish their book,” she said. “I started writing it down and made it simple.”

Everything she has done in her career has helped her become a self-publisher, she said. That includes writing, marketing, budgeting, and designing with computer graphics, she added.

She said she has met with three writers and discussed experiences in writing and publishing books.

“I believe everybody has a story in them that is unique and different from everybody else,” Folsom said. Her book tries to provide them with a healthy understanding of what they are tackling in self-publishing.

The paperback book, under 40 pages, is self-published and is available for $4.85 on Amazon.com. There is also a Kindle version available.
