KCK resident injured in highway accident

A Kansas City, Kan., resident was injured in a highway accident when her vehicle overturned Dec. 7 on I-35 northbound at I-635 in Johnson County.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report, a Kia Rio and a Toyota Tacoma were northbound on I-35 at 4:17 p.m. Sunday when the accident happened.

The driver of the Kia Rio, an 18-year-old Independence, Kan., woman, was traveling too fast for the conditions and lost control of the vehicle, which went into another lane and hit the Toyota, the trooper’s report stated.

The Toyota, driven by a 22-year-old Kansas City, Kan., woman, then began to spin counter-clockwise, going across all lanes to the inside shoulder, striking the barrier wall and overturning, the trooper’s report stated.

The driver of the Toyota was injured and taken to a hospital in Kansas City, Kan. The driver of the Kia, who was not wearing a safety restraint, was not injured, the report stated.
