KCK man dies in crash in Platte County

A Kansas City, Kan., man died in a traffic crash about 1:34 a.m. May 28 on I-29 just south of Mexico Avenue in Platte County, Mo.

Michael R. Sear, 58, from Kansas City, Kan., was driving a Kia Soul on I-29 northbound when a Subaru Crosstrek in back of him struck the Kia in the rear, causing both vehicles to go off the road and into the median cable barrier, the Missouri State Highway Patrol report stated.

Sear was pronounced dead at North Kansas City Hospital.

The driver of the Subaru, a 24-year-old man from Platte City, Mo., had minor injuries.

The Subaru driver was arrested and taken to the Platte County jail on charges of felony driving while intoxicated and careless and imprudent driving, according to the arrest report.
