Adrian Espinosa-Flores, 38, a resident of Kansas City, Kan., was charged with involuntary manslaughter – driving under the influence in connection with the death of a Johnson County sheriff’s deputy on Sept. 11.
He was also charged with failure to stop at the accident.
Master Deputy Brandon Collins, who had more than 20 years service with the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department, was killed when a vehicle struck his patrol vehicle while he was conducting a routine traffic stop on U.S. 69 South in Johnson County. He leaves a wife and two daughters.
Gov. Sam Brownback ordered flags lowered Sept. 17 in Johnson County to honor Collins.
Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt issued the following statement Sunday on the line-of-duty death of Johnson County Sheriff’s Master Deputy Collins:
“I am deeply saddened by the death of Master Deputy Brandon Collins early this morning in Johnson County. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the officer’s family, the men and women of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department, and the entire Johnson County community in this time of loss.”
