A local law firm will be sponsoring discount haircuts before Christmas for youths ages 4 to 18.
The haircuts at the Headlines Barber Academy will cost only $3 for youth today and tomorrow because Dupree and Dupree Law firm will pick up the additional cost.
Mark Dupree said the first 100 youth ages 4 to 18 who come in today and tomorrow (Dec. 22 and 23) will receive the reduced price haircut. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.
Headlines Barber Academy, 4327 State Ave., Kansas City, Kan., shares a parking lot with Price Chopper.
Dupree and Dupree Law firm stated they just wanted to provide a holiday present for the parents and children in the community. They believe when youth look good, they feel better about themselves, and are more positive about what they can accomplish and achieve, said Shanelle Dupree, a partner in the law firm.
It is the first year for the program.
“I was in the barber chair a few months back,” Mark Dupree said when asked how the program started. He was trying to figure out a way to help young people, and at the same time, help the barber academy, which provides a way for residents to learn a trade and become productive citizens.
Dupree said he is planning to offer the haircut program again next year.
