Because of excessively dry and windy conditions experienced during the spring open burn period, the Unified Government, along with the fire marshal, have extended the spring 2014 open burn period, according to an announcement today from the Fire Department.
The extended period will run May 1 to 6 p.m. May 9.
Dry weather conditions prevented many residents from burning yard waste during the past few weeks.
Local burning ordinances and regulations will still apply during the extended burn period. Permits are needed and are available at all Kansas City, Kan., fire stations.
