The Kansas State School for the Blind is partnering with Audio-Reader Network for the KC Blind All-Stars Foundation Annual Hybrid 5K Walk-Run tomorrow, Sept. 24.
Audio-Reader Network is a public service of the University of Kansas that will help relay the visual information of the event in real time for individuals who are blind or visually impaired.
“I think it is important (and awesome) that the audio description is included. I wish more events would do this,” said KSSB student Patrick Wilson. “Audio description is necessary for these sorts of events because it includes those who are blind whether they are there in person or not.”
The KCBAS Foundation Hybrid 5K Walk-Run will take place at 9 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 24. KMBC meteorologist Nick Bender will be master of ceremonies, with warm-up conducted by fitness coach Monique McDaniel. KCK Mayor Tyrone Garner and KSSB Superintendent Jon Harding also plan to be in attendance.
There is still time to register, or just show up to the site to show support.
The program begins at 8:45 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Kansas State School for the Blind, 1100 State Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. Registration is at https://runsignup.com/kcbas5k.
All monies raised from this year’s event will go toward replacing the school’s gym floor.
