A new judge will be chosen at the polls on Tuesday, Aug. 5, in Wyandotte County.
Three candidates, Timothy Dupree, Courtney Mikesic and James Yoakum, are running in the Democratic primary for a vacant Wyandotte County District Court judge position in Division 11. No Republicans filed for this position.
Voters will vote in their party’s primary in the election Tuesday.
In Edwardsville, a sales tax increase is on the ballot. It is for a one-half of one percent sales tax. Sales taxes from this would be spent on roads, sidewalks, storm water facilities, parks and recreation facilities and acquiring fire and safety equipment.
There also is a contest in the Democratic primary for U.S. representative, 3rd District, where Kelly Kultala and Reggie Marselus are running for the opportunity to oppose incumbent Rep. Kevin Yoder, a Republican.
Two candidates, Chad Taylor and Patrick Wiesner, are running for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate.
On the Republican ballot, three candidates are challenging incumbent Sen. Pat Roberts. They include Milton Wolf, D.J. Smith and Alvin Zahnter.
Incumbent Gov. Sam Brownback has primary opposition from Jennifer Winn.
Scott Morgan is challenging incumbent Secretary of State Kris Kobach in the Republican primary.
Five are running for the Republican nomination for Kansas commissioner of insurance, as incumbent Sandy Praeger is not returning. The five are Beverly Gossage, David Powell, Ken Selzer, Clark Shultz and John Toplikar.
Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5. Registered voters will need to bring identification with them to vote.
