Michael A. Jones

Michael A. Jones was sentenced today to life in prison without chance of parole for 25 years in a case in which a 7-year-old boy died in Kansas City, Kansas, court officials said.

Jones, 46, pleaded guilty on March 31 to first-degree murder in the case, in which his son’s body was found in a barn with pigs. The boy’s body was discovered in November 2015 on North 99th Street.

The case is in Wyandotte County District Court.

The boy’s stepmother, Heather Jones, pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree murder, and also to a child abuse charge, in October 2016. Heather Jones received a life in prison, 29-year sentence.

Earlier, officials said it was one of the worst cases of child abuse they had ever seen.

Adrian’s grandmother has publicly spoken out in favor of a longer prison sentence, and also has advocated for changes in state laws. There is currently an “Adrian’s Act” bill in the Kansas Legislature addressing child abuse cases.
