The Schlagle Stallions won a 54-14 victory over the Sumner Academy Sabres on Friday night at F. L. Schlagle Stadium.
The Stallions came out of the gate strong, recovering the opening onside kick and marching down the field, with a Josh Becton 15-yard rushing touchdown to open the scoring. They followed up a few minutes later with a touchdown pass from Becton to Drelyn Carroll. Becton’s second rushing touchdown gave Schlagle a 20-0 lead midway through the first quarter.
Sumner receiver Nahshon Houston provided a lift to the Sabres on the following kickoff, racing the length of the field for a touchdown. However, the surge was short-lived, as Kendall Brewer answered right back with a kickoff return touchdown for Schlagle. Jaylin Richardson closed out the quarter with a rushing touchdown for a 34-7 lead.
Turnovers limited both offenses in the second quarter until Sumner quarterback Dominic Lee hit Houston for a 53-yard touchdown reception with two minutes remaining in the half.
Richardson owned the scoring in the third quarter, with two rushing touchdowns and an interception return for one more. Schlagle’s offensive line was able to get him open for consistently long yardage and produced sustained drives throughout the half.
Schlagle holds the lead in the Kansas City – Atchison League, with a 4-0 record, 1/2 game over Atchison. They play at home against Washington next Friday. Sumner drops to 1-2 in the league. They’ll play at home against Harmon next Friday.
