An elderly woman who had been trapped in her apartment died from her injuries, according to Kansas City, Kan., fire officials.
The apartment house fire was reported at 4:42 p.m. Sunday at 3301 Wood Ave., a spokesman said.
A search and rescue found one person inside the building who was injured and taken to the hospital, according to fire officials. She later died at the hospital, officials said. The elderly resident had been trapped in the apartment.
An investigation has begun into the cause of the fire, a spokesman said.
The loss to the multi-family residence was estimated at $7,000, according to the spokesman.
