Injury crash reported on I-35 after brakes failed on dump truck

An injury crash was reported at 1:16 p.m. Saturday, July 16, at Seventh Street and I-35 in Kansas City, Kan., according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

A Volvo dump truck was northbound on the ramp from I-35 northbound in the middle lane to turn north on Seventh Street Trafficway, when the brakes failed, according to the trooper’s report.

The dump truck ran a red light and struck the front of a Subaru Outback that had the right of way, the trooper’s report stated. The Subaru was southbound on Seventh Street in the right lane.

The Subaru’s driver, a 63-year-old woman from Jefferson City, Mo., was injured and taken to a hospital, the report stated.

A 39-year-old Kansas City, Kan., woman in the Subaru also was injured and taken to a hospital, according to the report.

The driver of the dump truck, a 49-year-old man from Kansas City, Kan., was not injured, according to the report.
