Hot weather, chance of storms today

UPDATE: Wyandotte County is under a severe thunderstorm warning until 5 p.m. Sunday. Heavy rain was falling at 4:30 p.m. Friday in Wyandotte County.

Today’s forecast includes a high near 90 and a heat index as high as 96, according to the National Weather Service, with a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3 p.m.

Scattered storms are expected to develop this afternoon along the I-70 corridor, the weather service said.

Coverage expands during the evening and overnight hours. Isolated strong storms are possible, including 60 mph winds and quarter size hail, according to the weather service.

On and off storm chances continue for the first part of the week with a few strong storms are possible again on Monday, the weather service said.

Moderate to heavy rain, with 1-3 inches of rainfall, is possible through Tuesday, according to the weather service.

Today, there is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 3 p.m., the weather service said. The high will be near 90 with a heat index as high as 96. Between a tenth and quarter-inch of rain is possible.

Tonight, there is a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2 a.m., according to the weather service. Some of the storms may produce heavy rainfall. The low will be around 71 with an east wind of 3 to 6 mph. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain are possible.

Monday, there is a 70 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 1 p.m., the weather service said. The high will be near 83 with an east southeast wind of 3 to 6 mph. Between a half and three-quarters of an inch of rain is possible.

Monday night, there is a 70 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1 a.m., with a low of 70 and a light southeast wind, according to the weather service. Between a half and three-quarters inch of rain is possible.

Tuesday, there is a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a high near 87, the weather service said, and a calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph. Between a tenth and a quarter-inch of rain is possible.
