Hot, humid weather today; storms possible Thursday

Today will be warm and humid with temperatures in the upper 80s to low 90s and heat indices in the mid to upper 90s, according to the National Weather Service.

Scattered storms are possible in the north of the region on Thursday morning, with widespread storms expected across the entire area during the afternoon and evening, the weather service said.

Some of the afternoon storms Thursday could become strong to severe, with damaging winds and hail the main concerns, according to the weather service.

The weather for Friday through the weekend appears dry at this time, the weather service said.

The Missouri and Kansas rivers in Wyandotte County currently are below flood stage and below action stage, according to hydrology charts.

Today will be sunny with a high near 89 and heat index values as high as 94, the weather service said. An east southeast wind of 5 to 15 mph will become south in the afternoon, with winds gusting as high as 22 mph.
