John Alonso and the Laredo Lemurs defeated the T-Bones 7-4 in 10 innings in front of a crowd of 5,428 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark on Friday night.
After trailing by three runs since the top of the third inning, the T-Bones pieced together single runs in the seventh and eighth innings, and then tied it at 4-4 in the ninth with a two-out RBI triple by Vladimir Frias. Any momentum that favored Kansas City faded quickly in the 10th, though, when Alonso belted a three-run home run off reliever Kris Regas (1-1) that put the game out of reach.
Chad Povich (2), in relief of Caleb Graham (1-0), struck out the side in the bottom of the 10th.
Kansas City jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when T.J. Mittelstaedt scored on a Nick Schwaner single. That was the T-Bones’ only lead. And it didn’t last long.
In the second inning, Laredo scored two runs against starter Andy Noga on a two-out, bases-loaded rally on RBI singles by Josh Sheffert and Nick Van Stratten. The Lemurs would add two more runs in the third inning when Devin Goodwin, a former T-Bones infielder, and Denker hit back-to-back solo home runs that put Laredo ahead 4-1. Denker’s home run was his league-leading 11th homer.
The story of the night for Kansas City was timely hitting. The T-Bones stranded a total of 14 runners, including leaving the bases loaded in the second inning.
With the loss, the T-Bones (10-12) will look to even the three-game series Saturday night at 7:05. Tickets are available by calling the Providence Medical Center Box Office at CommunityAmerica Ballpark at 913-328-5618.
