Revenues were down slightly at Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway for November, in comparison with October’s figures, but totals were up in comparison to the previous November.
When November revenues this year were compared to November last year, revenues were up $391,000 or about 3.6 percent, according to officials.
The November revenues were $11,268,500, compared to October’s revenues of $11,362,958 at the Hollywood Casino in Kansas City, Kan., according to a report at today’s Kansas Lottery Commission meeting, and lottery records.
In a written report to the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission, Hollywood Casino officials stated in November of this year, slot revenue was up five-tenths of a percent compared with November of the prior year, and table games revenue was up 21.5 percent from the previous November.
“We achieved high hold percentage in table games this month which is the primary reason for the large increase over prior year,” Hollywood Casino’s general manager, Bob Sheldon, reported to the KRGC.
He stated that the casino had a number of special promotions and also had special offerings at its restaurants over Thanksgiving. In addition, gaming business was “very brisk” on Black Friday, a big shopping day after Thanksgiving, he reported.
Revenues at the Kansas Star Casino at Mulvane, Kan., were down 5.9 percent in November in comparison to the previous November, according to the report. The number of admissions in November dropped about 6.5 percent compared to the previous year.
At the Boot Hill Casino in Dodge City, Kan., there was an 8 percent increase in gaming revenues in November, as compared to the previous November, according to the report.
The total revenue for all three Kansas state casinos was down about 1.2 percent during November, according to lottery officials.
In other action at the lottery meeting today, the commission voted to move back the date for applications for casino managers for the Southeast Gaming Zone casino.
The deadline for applications formerly was Dec. 19, but the deadline was moved to 11 a.m. Jan. 30.
Lottery officials said the date was moved back to give newly appointed Lottery Gaming Facility Review Board members enough time to be prepared for their work.
Some of the review board members had been recently appointed. Ninety days after the Jan. 30 deadline will be the next deadline, to negotiate contracts with applicants.
At the meeting today, lottery officials said there had been no requests from any potential applicants to delay the deadline.
Applicants will pay a privilege fee to the state of $5.5 million for applying to be the manager of the casino in the Southeast Kansas Gaming Zone, which is in Crawford and Cherokee counties. This is in an area near Pittsburg, Kan. The required investment in infrastructure is $50 million.
The review board, appointed by the governor, the president of the Senate and the Speaker of the House, includes Jack Bower, Atchison, chairman, appointed by Gov. Sam Brownback; Georgianna Mullin, Lenexa, appointed by Gov. Brownback; Lisa Pleasure, Shawnee, appointed by Gov. Brownback; Kevin Cook, Topeka, appointed by House Speaker Ray Merrick; Gail Radke, Overland Park, appointed by Merrick; Don Alexander, Parsons, appointed by Senate President Susan Wagle; and Jeff Oakes, Fredonia, appointed by Wagle.
In other lottery commission action today, lottery officials reported that sales for the Holiday Millionaire Raffle ticket drawings were going very well, especially after a very successful Black Friday promotion was held.
