The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for Wyandotte County until midnight.
According to the weather service, northwest winds of 50 to 60 mph are possible in the area.
Winds of this strength can blow down trees and power lines, the weather service said. Widespread power outages are possible.
Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles, according to the weather service.
Kansas City, Kansas, is in the path of this storm.
Weak showers will move through the area during the next three hours, producing high wind gusts across eastern Kansas and Missouri.
Residents are advised to avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches.
If possible, remain in the lower levels of the home during the windstorm, and avoid windows, the weather service said. Use caution if you must drive, according to the weather service.
