Two shortwave troughs over the northern and southern Rockies will move eastward on Wednesday night, breaking down the upper-level ridge and providing added cloud coverage, cooler temperatures in the 50s and a chance for rain on Thursday, the weather service said.
The trough will quickly push through the area, and an upper-level ridge over the western United States will set up a northwest flow pattern over the Kansas City area this weekend. Temperatures will climb back into the 60s Friday and Saturday as southerly winds and upper-level ridging build into the area, according to the weather service.
Strong northwest winds will develop Sunday, with gusts approaching 30 to 40 mph in the afternoon hours, the weather service said.
Rain chances are in the forecast again for Monday, according to the weather service.
