Heavy rain, flash flooding possible

The first round of a multi-day period of rainfall will start late this afternoon and evening across eastern Kansas, before rain chances increase during the overnight hours, according to the National Weather Service.

Widespread flash flooding is not anticipated, although localized flooding is possible, particularly from Tuesday to Wednesday, the weather service said.

River and stream flooding is also possible in some places at mid-week, according to the weather service.

Today, a slight chance of showers will be followed by a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m., the weather service said. It will be mostly sunny with a high near 89 and a south southeast wind of 5 to 10 mph.

Tonight, there is a 90 percent chance of showers and a thunderstorm, according to the weather service. The low will be around 70 with a south wind of 5 to 8 mph. Between a quarter and half-inch of rain is possible.
