An excessive heat warning is in effect today in Wyandotte County. It will be the fourth consecutive day of hazardous heat here.
Hot temperatures expected this afternoon with temperatures near 95 and heat index values above 104, according to the weather service.
The excessive heat warning is in effect from 1 p.m. today until 9 p.m. tonight.
The weather service advised residents to take extra precautions if they work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning o evening, according to the weather service.
Residents are advised to wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency, call 911.
An excessive heat warning means that a prolonged period of dangerously hot temperatures will occur, the weather service said. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are likely, according to the weather service.
Residents are advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check on relatives and neighbors, the weather service said.
Cooling centers throughout the county should open today.

Similar hot weather is possible Tuesday, according to the weather service. There may be additional heat advisories and warnings issued.
Thunderstorms are expected along a cold front Tuesday night into early Wednesday, according to the weather service.
A few storms Tuesday night to early Wednesday could produce heavy rainfall in places as well as isolated damaging wind gusts, the weather service said.
